The Alcohol and Other Drugs Skill Set (AOD) will give you specialised skills to recognise and work effectively with clients who experience alcohol and/or other drug issues. You will gain insight on how to provide a range of services and implement relevant health programs and interventions within the community.

By completing this entry level course in alcohol and other drugs you will be able to make a real difference in your community and enjoy a rewarding career that helps improve the lives of many.

The units within this course provide credit towards a range of qualifications in the CHC Community Services Training Package, including the CHC43215 Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs.

This course can lead to establishing or extending the parameters of your current employment in the community health sector.

Our AOD Skill Set is also ideal for people who already hold a qualification in the Community Services, Health or related field or for those who wish to broaden the scope of their current skills and knowledge.

What will I learn?

Study areas relevant to this course include:

  • Models of addiction – how and why people become addicted to drugs
  • Drugs and their effects – the physiological effects of drugs and alcohol on the mind and body
  • Treatment modalities – treatment option and their potential effect
  • Special population groups (dual diagnosis, indigenous, youth, older adult, LGBTIQ+, transcultural) – Identify and learn different ways to support diverse groups with Alcohol and other drug problems

This course includes 4 units of study.

 

Additional Information

1. Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs
Students who successfully complete this Skill Set course will receive 4 unit credits in our Certificate IV course.
CHC43215 Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs with ACCLM. Students who successfully complete this Skill Set course will receive 4 unit credits in the Certificate IV course.

Online Course Delivery
The course is delivered completely online with no classroom attendance required. A sound level of computer literacy is expected from students. Online delivery provides you with maximum flexibility, allowing you to study anywhere and anytime.

As all training materials and assessments are delivered online, you must have access to a good computer with internet access. You have online access to your facilitator and other support.

Tutorial Sessions
ACCLM Courses include optional live sessions over Zoom where students can interact with their trainer and peers, have their questions answered, and receive additional support with their studies. Participation in these sessions is not mandatory.

Online weekend workshops are also held throughout the course to provide practical application of your skills and knowledge.

Students will be provided with information regarding available tutorial sessions and weekend workshops throughout their studies.

A variety of assessment methods will be utilised to assess the student’s competency in each unit of this qualification.

Case studies are analyses of persons, events, decisions, periods, projects, policies, organisations, or other systems that are studied holistically by one or more methods.

Roleplay
Roleplay assessment through direct, indirect observation by the trainer/assessor in a simulated workplace environment.

Prospective students are able to enrol into the CHCSS00093 Alcohol and Other Drugs Skill Set course if they are 18 years or over and meet one of the following entry requirements:

Completed Year 12 or Equivalent or a Certificate III or higher

Your Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills must meet the required standards for ACSF LEVEL 3 or higher.
